A couple weeks ago I was contacted by Amanda Barrett from MediaBistro.com, a career and community site for media professionals. She is their Associate Director of Marketing for Events and Education, and she wanted to tell me about a program that MediaBistro is running for new college grads who are looking for media jobs. Here’s the copy she sent me:
There’s no question the job market is tight. If you’re trying to get your foot in the door, you have your work cut out for you. But fear not! Our summer series How to Get Your First Media Job (and Become a Rising Star) is designed to get you in, get you noticed, and get you ahead in this competitive economy. You’ll meet editors and experts who really want to help newcomers avoid common mistakes and make a beeline to the top.
The series includes panels on landing your first editorial job and making the most of your internship, seminars on interviewing and creating a helpful online image, and a workshop on resume and cover letter writing.
We know it’s hard to make ends meet when you’re just starting out, so we have a special deal for you: sign up for all five events and get a generous 20% off the total enrollment fee. Click here for details.
You can sign up for all of the events, or pick individual events to attend. The full program is entitled How to Get Your First Media Job (and Become a Rising Star): 5 workshops on getting in, getting noticed, and getting ahead in a competitive job market.

The speakers appear to be top notch, and Media Bistro has a great reputation for helping people find jobs; moreover, the networking opportunities (with seasoned pros and new college grads like yourself) should be phenomenal. This isn’t an advertisement. We just wanted to gauge interest for these types of events. Is this something that you’d consider attending? Do you want to hear about more opportunities like this?
