Looking for an entry level job or internship in analytics? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.
There are two big types of analytics: business analytics and web analytics. Business analytics concentrates on finding patterns in past business in order to drive future success. There are a lot of subfields here: risk analytics, fraud analytics, even supply chain analytics. You can find most of these positions in large businesses and firms.
Web analytics is the collection of Internet data (like getting information from visitors when they visit a website) to understand how those users use a given site. You can find web analytics positions in businesses large and small, particularly in the technology sector.
You’ll need a bachelor’s degree for most positions in analytics, preferably with a business background (for business analytics) or a math or computer science background (for web analytics). An interest in uncovering patterns and an analytical mind are also good to have.
