Looking for an entry level job or internship in video games? This is an overview of how to approach the search and a list of companies that might have relevant entry level and internship opportunities.

Have you ever thought about being on the other side of the video game experience? No, not the characters–the game creators. There are many types of jobs available in the video game industry, both in the business and technical sides.

For the artists, you could become a game artist or animator and make the art that makes video games aesthetically pleasing. If you make your art with words, you can write video games, making the dialogue and play text fit the overall mood of the game. Actors may find jobs in voice acting, though this requires lots of perseverance and voice training.

If you’re technically inclined, you can write the code that makes the game operate. Some potential titles include Programmer or Game Developer. You can also work in audio engineering, creating sound effects and voices for games.

You can also work in technical support and help other users out. Additionally, you can test video games for bugs and quality assurance. With more experience and determination you can become a game designer and become responsible for an overall game concept.

Smartphones and the Internet have revolutionized the video game business. Because of this more and more small companies are getting into the video game businesses. Even individuals are creating games and putting them on app stores or online, so if getting into the video game industry is your dream, dive in and create something.
