A frontend web developer builds what you see in a website: the HTML, CSS, Javascript, and other programming languages (like PHP for WordPress, which One Day One Job runs on) that make the site come to life. They may use a design that a User Interface or User Experience Designer created, or if the company is really small, create their own design and implement it.
On the other hand, a backend web developer works with the databases that store and manage all the data a website uses. The database may be Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, or something else. The backend web developer develops and modifies the database to meet the site’s needs, as well as tests the database.
To get started in web development, a bachelor’s degree isn’t always required. Experience in HTML, CSS, Javascript, and at least one programming language are required, all of which you can teach yourself if web development is the job for you. Most of all, don’t get too hung up on which languages to learn: the skills you learn in each programming language are transferable to other programming languages. So get to learning.
