Why do you buy one brand of toilet paper instead of another? Some of you might swear that you absolutely need a certain brand or you will suffer great discomfort, but that’s just not true. Unless you’re like Finch from American Pie, you’ve used plenty of public restrooms with out suffering too much. So, why do you pick the double-ply, quilted, 12 pack instead of the single-ply 24 pack? Marketing. You might say that it’s all based on price because you’re a starving college student. It’s still marketing. You might not be willing to admit it, but it is. And who helps companies figure out how to sell you their toilet paper? Cannondale Associates does.

They Don’t Make Bikes

When we hear the name Cannondale, our first thought is always of the bicycle manufacturer. As cool of a company that we’re sure they are, they are not whom we’re talking about. Cannondale Associates is a “Marketing and Sales Management Consulting and Software Solutions firm” – we put that in quotes, because we wanted you to know that there’s no way that we could have come up with that description. Their focus is primarily on helping packaged goods manufacturers in their relationships with “retail customers, including grocery chains, mass merchandisers, drug stores, and convenience stores.” Cannondale works in 5 areas with their clients: Consulting, Research, Analytics, Software, and ShopperGenetics. The commonality is that Cannondale Associates takes a scientific approach to figuring out how consumers make decisions and how packaged goods producers can affect these decisions. Want to learn more? Big Focus on Campus Recruiting

Why would a small company like Cannondale Associates who has really great marketing minds from really good business schools want new grads to help them? Because their top guns can’t do it on their own. They need support from Project Analysts and Research Associates. Cannondale has just under 40 employees, and a flat organizational structure, yet they still put a heavy emphasis on campus recruiting. Clearly they think that young people have a lot to offer. In fact, Cannondale Associates’ Careers page is almost entirely devoted to entry-level recruiting.

Despite Cannondale Associates’ website’s having a 1990s feel, the content on it is actually quite informative. They have a College Recruiting page (it’s hard to link to because they use frames on their website, but you can find it on the Careers page), a list of entry-level positions, and information on career paths for new college grads. Cannondale Associates does not appear to list specific job openings, but they do say that they typically hire new college grads for one of three positions: Project Analyst: Business Analytics, Project Analyst: Shopper Insights, and Research Associate: Research Department. It’s not clear when the hiring for these jobs typically occurs, but there’s no indication that there is a set recruiting schedule.
