If there’s a time to get out and enjoy your city’s parks, it’s right now. The weather is beautiful, everything is in bloom, and most people will be in a good mood as they enjoy the first few weeks of great weather. While a nice park is great on its own, it can be even better with some top notch programming to bring the community together. City Parks Foundation is a New York, NY based non-profit that creates “programs in parks throughout all five boroughs of New York City.” They got their start in 1989, and since then they’ve been enriching and connecting “New Yorkers through free and accessible arts, sports, education and community-building initiatives.”

Find a Spot to Park

A great way to get a feel for the work that City Parks Foundation does is to look at their calendar. They have events ranging from a puppet show of Pippi Longstocking to a concert with hip hop legend Rakim, and that’s just over the next few weeks. There are also all kinds of sports activities, educational programs, and community-building partnerships. The diversity of the programming matched the diversity of the city and its parks. If you’d like to get involved with City Parks Foundation, take a look at their Careers page. Right now they’re looking for a Marketing Administrative Assistant, a Greening Western Queens Community Visioning Coordinator, a Grant Writer, and a Technical Assistance Coordinator for Grants and Resource Development – Partnerships for Parks. If you love parks, this is the organization for you.
