Job searching can be a lot like rock climbing. There’s a goal in mind. The path isn’t always obvious. And sometimes you need to take a step backwards to continue your progress. It definitely helps to have a spotter, or belay, too (whether it be your parents, Career Services office, or us). In the end, both activities are exhausting, exhilarating, and trying. What better way to reward yourself for your hard work than… an energy bar? Sure, why not. And who is better to supply you with your post-climb (or post-interview) snack than Clif Bar & Company?
If you’re not already familiar with Clif Bar, you should know that they make a variety of energy bars based on a food philosophy that focuses on good health, great (organic) ingredients, and sustainable practices. They certainly try to appeal to people who are conscious about what they put in their bodies, so if you have any questions about Clif Bar’s products you can look at their Food FAQs or just send them a question. We’re really impressed that Clif Bar & Company has been able to build such a successful business while sticking to their principles. They’ve also remained independent, despite occasional temptations to sell out.
We’re not big fans of the drop-down navigation field that Clif Bar uses to organize jobs on its Employment page (mostly because it’s not search engine friendly), but it gets the job done. Clif Bar’s recruitment message is about as simple as can be. All they say is “[i]f you like tasty food, nice people and lots of interesting challenges, we’d love to hear from you. Did we mention there’s a rock-climbing wall?” We enjoy the lack of clutter, but we think Clif Bar is being too modest. Unless things have significantly changed in the past 3 years, it looks to us as though Clif Bar has a lot to brag about as an employer.
Clif Bar doesn’t use the term entry-level in any of their job listings, but we found three jobs that new college grads could probably swing. These all require some experience, albeit minimal, so take a look and see how you like the descriptions (which are actually pretty decent). Clif Bar & Company is looking to hire a Laboratory and Pilot Plant Technician, Web Producer, and Human Resources Coordinator. The Web and HR jobs look like what you’d expect to find at any company that offers a similar job title, but the Laboratory and Pilot Plant Technician job actually looks pretty cool – it’s all about food science. All positions are at Clif Bar’s office in Berkeley, CA.
If you’d like to apply, send a cover letter and resume to jobs@clifbar.com with the job title in the subject line. Watch out, we heard part of the interview process includes scaling their climbing wall in a set time – just kidding.

Actually, Clif bars are pretty good. I believe they have a cookies and cream flavor that’s pretty good. Also see Odawalla bars-peanuts and chocolate chips!
