I remember my first experience with online video. I was in middle school, and I would setup my computer to download South Park episodes overnight. The videos were in the RealPlayer format. Now I watch all of the Yankees games live over the Internet in HD quality. We’ve come a long way. Still, I think the sweetspot for online video is short clips that make you laugh. YouTube is probably the best place for that, but Dailymotion, which was started around the same time, is another great site for sharing videos. They’re actually based in Paris, France but also have an office in New York, NY. They offer 34 localized versions of their site and reach “over 110 million unique monthly visitors” who view more than 1.8 billion videos a month.

Get Things in Motion

There’s no better way to introduce you to Dailymotion than to show you their video about themselves:

I’ve always found that Dailymotion provides high quality videos and an easy to use interface. This is a big deal considering how wrong so many video sites get it. If a video takes too long to load, interrupts me with too long of an advertisement, or has low quality, I’ll just stop watching. Dailymotion seems to strike a good balance on all of these issues (15 second ads for instance). I could tell you more about Dailymotion, but you really should just take a half hour to watch some funny videos and get familiar with their product. Then look at their Jobs page. Right now they have a few New York based opportunities that look like a good fit for a new or recent grad including Sales and Production Assistant, Junior Finance Analyst, and Technical Project Manager, and Web Integrator/Developer. They also have opportunities in France, but the postings are in French…
