Have you ever seen those little LED flashlights? The ones that have a single tiny bulb but are many times brighter than regular old flashlights. They’re quite the modern miracle, but they’re nothing compared to the flashlights Intelligent Optical Systems is producing. To call them flashlights is actually an understatement, they’re really called LED Incapacitation Systems. They are the next generation in non-lethal weaponry, and they’re getting a lot of attention now that there’s a backlash against tasers.
Since college students are known to occasionally act out (YouTube video that has some mild taser violence and bad language), the invention of an LED Incapacitation System is probably a good thing, as it will hopefully replace tasers. When the light is shined in someone’s eyes, it pulsates at varying rates which leaves the person temporarily blind, dizzy, and likely disoriented. We’d say it’s equivalent to your Mom’s turning the lights in your room on at 6 AM on your first day back from college – not a fun experience, but you can recover. In all seriousness there is some impressive technology behind this device, and it looks to be a great tool in law enforcement. We just hope that the prankster in your dorm never gets a hold of one.
We’ve been making it too easy for you again. We’ve been serving up jobs on a silver platter, and doing most of the research for you. We want to see you a little disoriented (like you just had an LED Incapacitation System shined in your eyes), so that’s why we featured Torrance, CA based Intelligent Optical Systems. We also decided to write a post about them because they make a really cool product, so cool in fact that it was one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2007. They have a jobs page, but they don’t list any specific job openings. We have no idea what kind of jobs Intelligent Optical Systems offers, nor do we know whether they have anything available at the entry-level. That means that you’re going to have to do your own research, and probably try cold calling. They ask that you send a resume to humanresources@intopsys.com, but we know that you can do better than that – add a cover letter about why you want to do nothing more than to work with the kind of technology that the LED Incapacitation System is based on (assuming that’s true about you).
