I don’t play Facebook games with one exception—a game that a friend built. I guess this makes me unusual (I do play iPhone games though) because the stats on Facebook games are crazy. It’s hard to believe that anybody gets work done these days. If only there was a Facebook game where winning meant you’d landed a job. That’s not going to happen, so if you insist on Facebook gaming your way through the job search, then you better be looking to work for a company like Lolapps. They’re based in San Francisco, and they make Facebook games. They actually started with a user-generated quiz business, then they moved on to building games for well-known brands. Now, they’re focused on becoming their own gaming brand. Their current products include games like Garden Life, Band of Heroes, Diva Life, Yakuza Lords, and a few more. I’m sure they’re working on plenty more as they try to grow their name in the ultra-competitive world of Facebook games.
I know it seems crazy that people are getting rich off of Facebook games, but it’s really happening. It’s the right platform at the right time. It’s also not all based on advertising either. Yes, ads are a bigger driver of revenue for many Facebook gaming companies, but in game purchases are also huge. Yes, people actually spend money—sometimes more than they’d spend on a console game—to improve the experience of their favorite Facebook games. With 180 million users and 5 million daily active users, Lolapps is in great position to be a leader in the space. If you’d like to join them, then you should check out their Jobs page. Right now they have entry level opportunities for Flash Engineers, Web Developers, and UI/UX Designers. Everything requires some technical background, but there’s always the chance that they’ll have some non-technical positions as they grow. If you want to get to know the company better, you should be sure to check out their Flickr stream and their blog where they occasionally spotlight their employees.
