It’s hard not to have a closet full of clothes that you don’t wear. No matter how ruthless you are with culling your collection of clothing, you always end up with some things that you wear a lot and some that you don’t. There are two ways to look at this first world problem. You can buy more stuff that you like, or you can get rid of the stuff that you don’t want anymore. Twice is a company that solves this problem (but only for women at this point). They’re a San Francisco, CA based company that buys and sells “high-quality, affordable secondhand clothes online.” It’s an ages old business that should play well online, and it even has a positive social/environmental impact.

Twice As Nice

The way Twice works is pretty simple. Sellers can send in clothing with a prepaid shipping label and get an offer from Twice (kind of like Cash4Gold or something). If they like it, they can take the cash. If not, they can choose to pay $5 to get their clothes shipped back or donate them to Goodwill. The clothes are then listed on the Twice site and sold to people who don’t mind buying gently used clothing. Twice only seems to focus on name brands, so they’re not really competing with thrift stores. This makes sense–clothing that was much cheaper than what Twice sells would probably be hard to make a profit on. Twice seems like it could be a really cool place to work, so visit their Jobs page and see what’s available. Right now they’re looking for a Software Engineer – Generalist, Office Manager / Administrative Assistant, and Operations Associate. All three positions look like they could be good fits for a new or recent grad.
