I’m getting married tomorrow! Amy and I are extremely excited to share such a special event with so many friends and family, but we’re both a little nervous… about the weather. There are thunderstorms in the forecast, and I have a bad history with lightning. Whether it rains or not, the wedding will go on, it will be great, and people will take lots of pictures. We have a great photographer who will capture many of the special moments, but our friends and family will do their best to supplement him and his crew. We decided against using an app to collect photos from friends, but we definitely considered it. Wedding Party is a Palo Alto, CA based company that offers an app that allows you to “capture all the amazing photos from your wedding.”
I surveyed a bunch of wedding startups this morning to see if any had good career opportunities. Wedding Party stood out with some interesting opportunities and the appearance that they actually have some traction. Their product has been covered in TechCrunch, Gizmodo, Daily Candy, and Style Me Pretty. The app is free, but it’s an excellent vector for upselling. The wedding market is stupid when it comes to money, so an app that offers real value should have no problem monetizing. What I think is especially cool about Wedding Party is that they put a lot of focus on making their app experience seamless. Not only have they partnered with myWedding (a wedding website provider), but they’ll even send you special place cards to remind guests to use the app. If you like what Wedding Party is up to, check out their Jobs page. Right now they’re looking for a Software Engineer (and an Editorial and Social Media Marketing Intern ). They have a small team right now, but don’t be afraid to reach out if you think you can add something.
